Evapotranspiration – The Water Cycle

What is evapotranspiration? …as defined by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) If you search for the definition of evapotranspiration, you will find that it varies. In general, evapotranspiration is the sum of evaporation and transpiration. Some definitions include evaporation from surface-water bodies, even the oceans. But, since we have a Web page just about evaporation, our definition of evapotranspiration will not include evaporation from surface water. Here, evapotranspiration is defined as the water lost to the atmosphere from the ground surface, evaporation from the capillary fringe of the groundwater table, and the transpiration of groundwater by plants whose roots tap the capillary fringe of the groundwater table.  I got the thought that we have finally reached the tipping point of killing off all of our vegetation’s… Maybe not in my lifetime yet with our path we have chosen with chemically raised food… well eventually … How you ask… well you need to put on your thinking caps for a second and close your eyes and imagine your mind’s eye travelling from coast to coast with what is about to take place on all of acres being planted on FARMLAND… Well think about the gozillion gallons of water mixed Glyphosate being spread everywhere. Well it is that time of year when the leaves fall and the arrows fly! Yes it is Archery for deer in the hills of Black Rock and I suspect over the next few weeks hunting will be on top of the todo list around here as we are visited by friends and neighbors seeking an elusive trophy buck or just some deer bologna for the frig! Egg Farm Factory

Well it is Spring and with that starts the abundance of egg laying. What better time to start up and get going the Egg Farm Factory! …and since things do get kind of slow over the winter with many of the egg workers getting laid off, it is a Great Time for some cleaning and fixing! …so here is what maintenance got done installing only the latest in advance technology of egg laying equipment before even any of the workers are brought back to full time egg laying… …and as always checking to be sure that the utmost care has been implemented in our engineering of ergonomic design for the safety and health of our Egg Laying Employees! the Living Soil

I mentioned before that I believe our future sustainability is much more dependent upon the things we can not see then it is on the things we can. None more so then the very hidden threads of life that we find under our feet and that has been called by many as the Living Soil. This, a very complex community of very diverse groups of organisms, ranging from one-celled algae, fungi, protozoa and bacteria, to nematodes and arthropods, to earthworms, insects, small vertebrates and plants. All of which come together to work into some natural balance of making healthy Living Soil. It is healthy living soil that then produces healthy food. It then becomes up to us to know what is healthy living soil and how to help to maintain it when we disturb it by raising our food. In other words… Feed the Soil and the Soil will Feed You.  These diverse organisms bring the soil alive, grow, eat and move through the soil. They make it possible to have clean water, clean air, healthy plants and moderate water flow.  These soil organisms decompose organic compounds. They sequester nitrogen and other nutrients and fix nitrogen from the atmosphere, making it available to plants. Many of these organisms increase soil aggregation and porosity, thus increasing infiltration and reducing runoff. Some prey on crop pest and are food for above ground animals.
